Board vets draft strategic plan; timeline for goals and indicators set for June adoption

Board members on Thursday reviewed a draft strategic plan and goal timeline for District 21 and commended the multi-stakeholder process used to craft the framework.
The board discussed the need for measurable benchmarks tied to the plan's "greatness indicators" and asked district staff to develop specific performance measures for academic achievement, leadership and other goal areas as the plan moves toward a formal adoption vote in June.
"I don't have any specific hard questions for you, tonight. I do think it's a good plan," board member Arlen said, while other trustees requested an annual reporting cadence and periodic reengagement of the stakeholder group to check progress.
Superintendent Dr. Connelly told the board that once the plan is approved the administration will build out action plans and specify performance targets for each goal, and that staff would return in June for formal adoption. The board also discussed how to report progress and the possibility of annual check-ins with the stakeholder group that helped draft the plan.
No formal vote was taken Thursday; the board expects a formal adoption vote at its June meeting and asked staff to provide more specific metrics and reporting approaches in the interim.
