Council approves street closures and park use for summer events and fundraisers

Newnan — The Newnan City Council unanimously approved several street-closure requests and a park-use request for local events on May 13.
RPM requested closure of Madison Street between Jefferson and Jackson streets on Sunday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Council approved all three dates. Bridging the Gap requested use of CJ Smith Park for a summer lunch program from May 27 through July 25, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; council approved the park use. Rocky Hill Community's request to close Wesley Street between Richard Allen Drive and Saint Claire Street on May 25 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. was approved, as was a Paul Street closure between Pinson Street and Johnson Avenue on July 26 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the Loved by Low Salon back-to-school event.
Council approved all closures and the park use unanimously. Standard event conditions, traffic-control plans and coordination with police and public works will be handled by staff under existing event permitting procedures.
