Newnan — Council discussed updates to the city's 2025 bicycle and pedestrian facilities plan on May 13 and asked staff to return with additional analysis before any plan approval.
At a council retreat in late March, members discussed making bicycle and pedestrian travel safer and more accessible. Council Member Jim Thomason requested two items be reviewed for the plan: (1) amending an ordinance to allow "the Link" to be offered as an amenity by housing complexes, and (2) investigating national organizations and the requirements to become certified as a bike- and pedestrian-friendly community.
Council Member Dustin Kuritko asked what certification would entail; Thomason said he wanted official recognition and asked staff to review renewal details of potential certifications. Staff will bring more information regarding certification requirements and any ordinance language before council can take action on adopting the updated facilities plan.
The council did not adopt the plan on May 13; direction to staff was limited to research and return with specifics.
