Newnan — The Newnan City Council unanimously approved a one-year extension of the city's on-call emergency debris-removal contract with Southern Disaster Recovery (SDR), extending the agreement through April 29, 2026.
City staff said the contract originated after the city's EF-4 tornado in 2021 and was structured as a one-year agreement with four one-year extension options. SDR is an on-call contractor that only charges the city when the city activates debris-removal services, and staff said extending the contract will not require additional funds unless services are called.
Staff warned that not extending the contract could potentially impact the city's ability to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding in the event of a qualifying disaster. Council voted unanimously to extend the on-call contract through the stated date.
Contract documents and any call-activation procedures will be handled through the city's procurement and emergency management processes.
