Lowell summarized building‑safety priorities — life safety, fire prevention, structural integrity and disaster preparedness — and urged public awareness, stronger code enforcement and local outreach, including school‑based activities such as coloring books and construction‑themed contests. "Building safety is not just a technical issue, it's a public safety priority," he said.
Mayor Julia Johnson read the proclamation and formally designated the month. Councilmembers welcomed outreach ideas and encouraged residents and local schools to participate.
