Delray Beach staff demonstrate e-services portal for permit applications

A staff member demonstrated Delray Beach’s e‑services portal and walked users through the steps to start and submit building-permit applications, including how to attach required documents and sign electronically.

"The e services system will allow you to submit applications, track their progress, and receive important notifications throughout the process," the staff member said. The demonstration showed the portal grouping applications into categories such as business tax receipts, building permits and planning and zoning.

To begin an application, the staff member said users should click the Apply button at the top of the page and may use the search column to find an existing application. "During the application you'll follow the timeline across the top. To start we need to add the location. Choose location and click add," the staff member said. The presenter then demonstrated entering required information and adding both the contractor and the owner, which the system requires.

The staff member noted that the portal retains saved contacts and allows users to mark "favorites" that appear under a My Favorites tab for quicker reuse. Under the More Information section applicants fill out remaining fields, attach required documents, and then sign the application. "You must sign the application. Put your name in the box and you can either draw your signature with your mouse or toggle the switch and you can type your name and the system will create your signature," the staff member said.

After submission the presenter clicked the permit button to show the permit page, where applicants can monitor the permit’s progress as it moves through the system.

This presentation was an instructional demonstration; no formal action, vote or policy change was taken at the meeting. The portal affects applicants, contractors and property owners who submit permits or other city applications online.
