Supervisors proclaim October 2025 National School Bus Safety Week in Tuolumne County

Christy Hammerbeck and Angela Howard, representing Sonora and Summerville school transportation, thanked the board for prior support and described outreach activities planned for the safety week, including school-led events, social-media posts and radio outreach to educate drivers about stopping for red flashing school-bus lights.
California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Machado said the CHP supports the outreach and enforcement effort but noted resources are limited: “We don’t have the resources to be at every bus stop every single time,” he said, urging continued public education and targeted enforcement. Sheriff Dave Vasquez reported that his office has issued citations for red-light violations and said he supports continued partnership with CHP.
