Summit County Council reappoints two North Summit Recreation board members after short interviews

What applicants said: Both applicants described program growth and facilities needs. Vorgel said the district has expanded after hiring a full-time district director about 18 months ago, and described a suite of youth programs (flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, baseball, t-ball and camps). Vorgel said the board is reviewing and updating its scholarship program to make assistance more accessible and is working with the school district to identify residents in need.
Charity Richins, who teaches at the local high school, told the council the new turf and softball field at Beacon Hill Park have been important to the community and praised the district director (referred to in the interviews as "JC"). She said programs are growing and that a priority is some form of indoor multipurpose facility for winter programming for youth, adults and seniors; she said the board is looking at lower-cost building options and grant funding before asking the community to support a bond.
Other topics raised included partnering with the school district on future pool programs, whether the recreation district could help operate a rail trail (applicants said funding for long-term upkeep would be a primary concern), and expanding adult programming.
Action: The council adopted Resolution 2025-27 to reappoint Tyler Vorgel and Charity Richins to the North Summit Recreation Special Service District Administrative Control Board for terms expiring Sept. 30, 2029. A standard voice vote carried the resolution.
