Council grants one-month extension for Park City Film restaurant-tax grant spending

Park City Film Executive Director Katie Wang asked the Summit County Council for a short extension to spend remaining funds from a 2024 Summit County restaurant-tax grant. Wang told the council the organization received the grant earlier than in prior years and that much of its advertising and out-of-county promotion (which the county grants support) typically occurs in the September–June cycle; Park City Film asked for an extension through Nov. 21, 2025 to better align expenditures with programming.

Councilmember Roger recommended approval of the requested extension and councilmembers moved and approved a motion to allow Park City Film to use the 2024 restaurant-tax grant funds through Nov. 21 (staff recorded a motion and vote on that date range during the meeting). The council noted the request reflected a one-off timing issue in the 2024 grant cycle and that staff has accommodated similar requests in the past where the grant timing deviated from the organization’s program calendar.

The council's vote was unanimous. Park City Film said it will use the funds specifically for out-of-county advertising to attract cultural tourists in shoulder seasons, with the objective of boosting local restaurant, hotel and business patronage in slower months.
