Committee approves proclamations recognizing city employees’ flood response and volunteer leader Amanda Sasso

The Government Affairs Committee approved two proclamations recognizing the city’s response to the August 2025 storm and flood: one honoring city employees for their response efforts and a separate proclamation recognizing Amanda Sasso for her actions protecting a city-owned historic commercial building during the event.

Mayor McBride and Alder Dolan described Sasso’s early-morning actions during the flood: monitoring security cameras, mobilizing mitigation contractors and volunteers, and overseeing cleanup efforts. Committee members said they supported issuing two distinct proclamations — one for city employees’ collective response and one specifically to commend Sasso’s role as volunteer leader and president of the Wauwatosa Historical Society. The mayor noted Sasso’s part-time work as an insurance adjuster aided the response because she knew appropriate contractors to contact.

Alder Moldenhauer moved to take items 2 and 3 together; Alder Lowe seconded. The committee approved the proclamations by unanimous vote. Members said the separate proclamations better recognized the different contributions of city staff and Sasso’s independent efforts at the historic, city-owned property.
