Board approves $13.31 million guaranteed maximum price for new Fire Station 50 and Fire Rescue administration offices

The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 6 approved a construction guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $13,313,508 with Meyer Najim Construction LLC for the new Fire Station 50, a two‑story facility that will also house Flagler County Fire Rescue administration offices.
County Engineer Hamid Tabassian and staff confirmed the project design — prepared by Shanklin Schultz — includes four apparatus bays, sleeping quarters and showers, an exercise room, a kitchen/dining/lounge area and about 19,500 square feet of administrative and training space on the second floor. Tabassian said design work is complete and the construction manager‑at‑risk process produced the GMP.
County Clerk/Comptroller Tom Bexley and staff confirmed a $10 million legislative appropriation toward the project was included in the county’s funding plan. County procurement and finance staff said the GMP is within the range expected given current market construction costs; staff noted recent comparable projects in neighboring jurisdictions reported higher cost per square foot.
Commissioner Carney moved to approve the GMP; Commissioner Hansen seconded and the board voted unanimously to authorize the amendment and proceed to construction. Tabassian said a similar GMP for Station 51 will be presented to the commission later.
Ending: With the GMP approved, staff will finalize contract documents and move into the construction phase; the county said it will continue to monitor construction costs and report any changes to the board.
