Long Beach — The City Council approved a contract not to exceed $150,000 to NOMO Cultural Strategies to provide museum curation services for an upcoming Long Beach Hip Hop Exhibit.
Staff said the award followed a competitive Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process and included Arts Council Long Beach partners in evaluation. The curation contract funds exhibit development and storytelling intended to document Long Beach’s role in shaping hip hop culture; staff said the contract is part of a multi‑year effort led by the city and cultural partners.
Councilmember Zendejas, who pulled the item for emphasis, described the award as an important moment and as chair of the Arts, Cultural and Tourism Committee highlighted the community value of documenting this cultural history. Staff said the contract execution will follow procurement rules and that the award will be subject to the standard contract and administrative approvals.
Why it matters: The exhibit and contract reflect the city’s investments in cultural programming and public history; the contract funds professional curation for a community exhibition.
