At its Aug. 14 meeting the Alabama State Board of Education voted unanimously on a series of resolutions, approvals and rule actions. The board approved the meeting agenda and minutes, adopted two administrative code rules, approved resolutions and announced an intent to adopt an additional rule.
Actions recorded in the meeting transcript (all votes were announced as unanimous by raised hands):
- Approve meeting agenda for Aug. 14, 2025. Outcome: approved (unanimous).
- Approve minutes (prior meeting). Outcome: approved (unanimous).
- Adopt resolution to approve educator preparation program renewals at the University of South Alabama. Outcome: adopted (unanimous).
- Adopt resolution regarding the Faith Awareness, Education, and Prevention Program. Outcome: adopted (unanimous).
- Adopt resolution to establish the Alabama Public Education Paperwork Reduction Committee. Outcome: adopted (unanimous).
- Adopt resolution honoring Neely Floyd as the Barbara Fannin Memorial and Floyd honoree for July–September 2025. Outcome: adopted (unanimous).
- Adopt resolution recognizing September 2025 as Attendance Awareness Month in Alabama. Outcome: adopted (unanimous).
- Adopt Alabama Administrative Code rule 290-3-1-.05 pertaining to paid parental leave as a permanent rule. Outcome: adopted (unanimous). (See separate story for discussion and public comment.)
- Adopt Alabama Administrative Code rule 290-2-1-.01 pertaining to annual apportionment of foundation program funds. Outcome: adopted (unanimous).
- Announce the intent to adopt Alabama Administrative Code rule 290-2-1-.06 pertaining to annual apportionment of raise act funds (intent announced and motion carried unanimously).
Procedural motions to open and adjourn the meeting were also approved by unanimous vote. The transcript records motions, seconds and raised-hand unanimous announcements; individual roll-call votes were not read aloud in the public transcript.
Items adopted by resolution and rule numbers were presented on the board agenda and recorded as motions with a second; the chair announced unanimous approval for each.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Gordon Persons Building Auditorium.
