Executive Committee favors keeping two County Board meetings monthly to preserve educational first meeting

The Marathon County Executive Committee on Oct. 9 told the Rules Review Committee it supports retaining two County Board meetings each month, saying the split — an informational/educational meeting followed by a voting meeting — gives supervisors time to gather information and consult constituents before final votes.
Several supervisors argued for keeping two meetings. Supervisor Robinson said he “continues to be a supporter of the 2 meeting a month” format because complex items benefit from education and follow-up. Supervisor Maske said the educational meeting allows questions to be resolved before the voting meeting and suggested moving the voting meeting to a later afternoon start time to reduce overtime for staff and security. Supervisor Arstead and Supervisor Drabek also favored keeping two meetings, noting that the interval allows further research and constituent feedback.
Committee Chair Gibbs said the committee would pass the feedback to the Rules Review Committee and suggested the Rules Review Committee consider possibly changing the voting meeting’s start time to reduce overtime costs. No formal vote was required; the committee’s conclusion will be communicated to Rules Review.
