The Wausau Board of Public Works voted Wednesday to approve four contractor pay estimates totaling $783,839.01 and then moved into closed session under Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(1)(g) to deliberate claims.
The approvals covered payments to Earth Incorporated for the Abel Stormwater Lift Station rehabilitation, RC Pavers for the 2025 asphalt patching project, Pembroke Companies for sidewalk ramp improvements at Sixth and Jackson, and Pembroke Companies for phase 2 of the 2025 downtown mall redevelopment. Board members indicated consultant review or quantity verification for several items before voting.
Board member 1, a member of the Board of Public Works, made the initial motion to approve payment estimate number 3 to Earth Incorporated for the Abel Stormwater Lift Station rehab in the amount of $138,066.16, noting quantities were approved by the board's consultant. Board member 2 seconded; the motion carried on an affirmative vote.
The board approved pay estimate number 4 for the 2025 asphalt patching project to RC Pavers in the reviewed amount of $16,349.63. For the 2025 sidewalk repair project B, Pembroke Companies' first pay application for ramp improvements at Sixth and Jackson in the amount of $33,003 was recommended by a speaker identified as Board member 3 and subsequently approved after a motion by Board member 1 and a second by Board member 3.
The largest payment approved was Pembroke Companies' pay estimate number 7 for the 2025 downtown mall redevelopment phase 2, reviewed by the city's consultant Core, in the amount of $596,420.22. A board member said a colleague named Alan had reviewed or cleared that item on the consultant's behalf.
After those votes the board approved a motion to go into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(1)(g) for the purpose of deliberating on claims. The motion was moved and seconded and carried on an affirmative vote. The board then adjourned into closed session; no other actions were taken in open session.
