Staff previews preservation tax-incentive review and 40th Arbor Day events; nominations and quorum requested

City of Conway Community Appearance Board staff told members that the house at 1311 Ninth Avenue (referred to in the meeting as the “pink lucky dog production house”) has sold and the new owner is interested in pursuing the preservation tax-incentive options available under city ordinance. Staff asked board members to review the preservation tax-incentive ordinance ahead of the next meeting because it has been some time since the board considered such an application. “They are wanting to pursue the preservation tax incentive, options,” staff said.

Staff also said nomination materials described in the meeting (referred to in the transcript as "quota bomb nominations") will come before the board at its next meeting so winners can be forwarded to the City Council by December. Staff asked that the board ensure a quorum at the next meeting to permit nominations to move forward.

Separately, staff previewed plans for the city’s 40th Arbor Day celebration. Staff said the city is planning a week of activities with a major celebration on the Friday of that week and that organizers are trying to schedule the events around other downtown activities, including the Christmas tree lighting in December.

A board member asked staff to email the preservation ordinance text and related materials before the next meeting so members would not have to locate the documents themselves. Staff agreed to email the materials. No formal action or vote on the preservation incentive or the Arbor Day plans was taken at the meeting.
