Several members observed the commission has historically adjusted the number of active licenses by attrition (not filling slots when a licenseholder gives up a license) and that any formal reduction would go through the council and take several months.
Commissioners also flagged fairness and transparency questions, including the need to notify individuals on any waiting list and to specify whether, and under what conditions, the commission would choose not to refill a license. There was no motion to change the ordinance; commissioners asked staff to continue to track the issue and advised the commission will return to the topic if the council requests a recommendation.
