Fountain Hills council OKs cooperative purchasing agreement with RoadSafe for event and emergency barricades

The Fountain Hills Town Council unanimously approved a cooperative purchasing agreement with RoadSafe Traffic Systems to supply barricades and other traffic-control devices for special events, construction and emergency response.

Public-works staff described the contract as a renewal-type agreement that uses an existing Maricopa County underlying solicitation and allows the town to rent barricades and related supplies. Justin Waldy, a town staff presenter, said RoadSafe has provided consistent service for the town's special events, construction projects and unplanned incidents and that the vendor often attends pre-event or construction meetings to advise staff at no additional cost.

Justin told council the town had used several companies on the county agreement in the past but increasingly relied on RoadSafe because invoices matched quotes and the firm provided dependable service. "Over the years...they have provided barricade rentals for all of our special events, our construction, and even some unplanned events where we had to temporarily close roads," Justin said.

Council voted 7-0 to approve the contract. Staff said the new agreement replaces the prior contract, which had reached its expenditure limit, and preserves the town's ability to rent traffic-control equipment for events and public-works needs.
