Representatives from the local Michelin plant presented a $15,000 donation Oct. 21 to the Lexington 1 Educational Foundation, district officials said. The donation will support the Michelin Global Digital Teacher Grants ($5,000) and the Michelin Phoenix robotics grant ($10,000) for middle and high school robotics teams.
District and foundation leaders appeared before the board to accept the check and to recognize the foundation’s role in supporting students. Board materials and presenters said the Lexington 1 Educational Foundation has awarded $567,000 in scholarships to 735 graduating seniors, more than $213,000 in teacher grants, and more than $215,000 in innovation grants over its history; the board applauded the foundation’s 30 years of work.
Why it matters: the donation channels private-sector funding into classroom materials, robotics programs and teacher innovation grants that the foundation administers, augmenting district resources. Staff said the grants will support classroom materials, library books and hands-on learning that directly affect students.
