Sedgwick County treasurer says merged tag office showing early improvement; East-side satellite planned

Treasurer Brandy Bailey told the Sedgwick County Commission on Oct. 22 that the county’s merged tag office has shown early improvements in service and staffing since the consolidation last week.
Bailey said the merged office opened the previous Tuesday and that staffing of service stations has been consistent through much of the day. She reported that walk-in queues that had reached 150–200 people outside the building earlier in the month have come down to roughly 35 at peak times since the merger and expanded appointment slots.
“We officially merged last Tuesday. That was our first day. Had a couple little challenges, but got through with that,” Bailey said. She added the county has opened two satellite locations and was testing a secured East-side location with county IT; Bailey said she hoped to go live at that site on Nov. 3 if tests succeeded.
Bailey said staff have been on site throughout the mornings and that adding appointment capacity and satellites “has allowed more people the ability to get those appointments.” She acknowledged intermittent state-level server outages can increase local queues and said the county had received data from the Kansas Department of Revenue to help with motor-vehicle fee calculations.
Commissioners and manager’s-office staff praised the tag-office staff for working weekends and holidays during the transition and encouraged the treasurer to continue public updates; Bailey said she appeared on local TV to report improvements and would continue outreach.
Ending: The treasurer’s office will continue testing the East-side satellite site and expand appointment availability; no changes to fee structure or permanent branch locations were announced at the meeting.
