District awarded $60,000 cybersecurity grant; board to consider calendar start-date change for 2026

Superintendent Dr. Lewis informed the board that the district received a $60,000 grant to continue cybersecurity work, noting the technology team has filled vacancies and is strengthening protections. She said cybersecurity remains an ongoing area of attention given recent upticks in threats.
Dr. Lewis also highlighted staff-recognition efforts (EdTech Recognition Day, HR Professionals Day, principals month and other staff celebrations) and said the district will continue to promote recognition on social media.
Separately, staff told the board the 2026–27 school-year start date had been set initially for Aug. 31 based on legislative expectations; because the legislature allowed a start before Labor Day but not before Sept. 1, staff will ask the board (on the consent agenda) to move the first day to Sept. 1, 2026. The calendar committee reviewed and agreed to the change.
