District reports restroom remodels, sinkhole repairs and athletic-field progress

Assistant Superintendent Rochelle Cox told the board the district is finishing multiple construction projects and preparing new bids for upcoming work.
Cox said single-user restroom remodels are nearly complete; inspections are pending and two sinks are en route from Los Angeles (temporary sinks are in place to allow inspections to proceed). At the middle school, crews identified two sinkholes in a back grassy field; temporary fill has been placed and a permanent solution of new concrete structures will be installed beginning Oct. 27. Cox said addressing the sinkholes is important because students use that field for recess and outdoor activities.
Athletic-field work is progressing: softball fields are about 75% complete; baseball fields' concrete and dugouts were expected to be finished by the end of the week with grading to follow and netting to keep equipment on district property. Cox said architect drawings are prepared for a slate of upcoming projects and the district plans to go out for bids with work anticipated to start in January, beginning with an FCC basement remodel and later athletic/stadium and middle-school projects.
