Board approves district improvement plans, sets special Nov. 13 canvass meeting and adopts TASB policy updates

At its regular meeting, the Gatesville ISD board approved several routine but formally required items: the district and campus improvement plans for the 202526#8211;26 school year, a recommendation to hold a special local canvass meeting in November, and a set of local policy changes recommended in a TASB update.

District staff said the campus and district improvement plans are compliance documents prepared in the Plan for Learning platform with checkpoints and progress measures. Staff recommended the board approve the plans submitted for the 202526#8211;26 school year; a motion to approve was seconded and an affirmative voice vote followed. The board did not read the entire plans at the meeting and treated approval as a standard consent-style action.

The board also discussed November election timeline items. Staff recommended a special local canvass meeting on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. so that returns could be officially canvassed without waiting until the last statutory day (Nov. 17). Trustees noted that only two members would be needed to constitute the local canvass quorum and named available trustees for that date; a motion was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Finally, trustees reviewed Policy Update 126 from TASB, which addresses state-law changes from the recent legislative session. The board moved to replace, add and delete local policies as described in the TASB update; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board chair noted TASB does the legal review and recommended adoption to remain compliant with state law.
