Passaic to add 10 bikes to bike-share program; Urban Enterprise Zone funding cited

City administration said the system currently has 25 bikes in circulation and that the additional 10 bicycles and racks will expand capacity. The program coordinator is working with EasyRide on outreach and helmets; the mayor said usage has been increasing.
A council member asked how often the bikes are used; administration responded that use has been steady and outreach, including a discount code in the app, has been used to encourage rides. The administration said the first two hours are free when users apply the code in the app.
Officials said the Urban Enterprise Zone provided funding support for projects on the consent agenda, and that some projects are being funded in two phases because bids came in higher than anticipated. The bike-share addition was described at the meeting as funded through UEZ grants. The item was part of a package of routine consent resolutions and was approved by roll-call vote.
Council members suggested looking into training-wheel options for younger riders; administration said it would consider the suggestion.
