Summary
City officials reported a police operation that removed about 1 kilogram of cocaine from the city. Officials said the operation was led by the city police and involved evidence of drugs and weapons; further prosecutorial action may involve outside agencies.
Passaic City officials reported that a recent police operation removed about 1 kilogram of cocaine from the city and recovered additional drug paraphernalia and weapons.
Mayor told the council the operation was “led, directed, and fully by our police officers” and that officers “were able to remove 1 kilo of cocaine off of our streets.” He said the operation identified individuals coming into the city and that the department worked to secure evidence while coordinating as needed with the county prosecutor for follow-up.
Council members thanked the police for the seizure and for “excellent police work,” and the mayor said the department sometimes collaborates with county, state and federal partners on other investigations but that this particular operation was run by city detectives. The mayor said he could not disclose all operational details at the meeting for investigative reasons.
The council did not vote on or otherwise change policy related to policing at the meeting. The administration presented the operation as an operational law-enforcement update rather than an item requiring council action.
