Kern County Board adopts resolutions backing AB 89 and SB 414 and opposing AB 84

On SB 414, trustees described the bill as strengthening oversight and accountability for non‑classroom‑based charter models; board members said the bill would clarify financial and reporting expectations and require specialized training for accountants or auditors who conduct charter school audits. The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution supporting SB 414 by voice vote.
The board also voted to oppose AB 84; trustees said the bill remained in suspense and the board wished to register opposition because of concerns they described about impacts on students, families and district operations. All three resolutions passed by voice vote; the meeting transcript records the chair calling each item and stating motions carried following voice votes.
The board instructed staff to forward the adopted resolutions to the Legislature and the State Board of Education.
