Council approves conditional use for adult-use cannabis dispensary at 205 S. Bridle Road

The City Council on May 14 approved a conditional use to allow an adult-use cannabis dispensary in the former Boston Market building at 205 South Bridle Road. The vote was 8–0 with one abstention.
Applicant Matthew Hagelin of Emerald Coast LLC proposed to renovate the 2,500-square-foot building and operate a retail dispensary with no on-premise consumption. The store’s hours would be 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Friday–Saturday and 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Sunday. One on-site security guard would be present during operating hours.
Why it matters: The conditional-use approval allows a new cannabis retail outlet in a busy commercial node that includes nearby restaurants, a movie theater and grocery stores. The police department reviewed the applicant’s security plan and found it acceptable.
Details and staff recommendation Planning staff noted site improvements will include new sidewalks, improved pedestrian access and additional landscaping. The property will offer 36 parking spaces, more than the zoning requirement of 10 for this use, and the applicant will remove Boston Market signage and update the exterior.
Vote and conditions The motion carried 8–0 with one abstention; staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval subject to the conditions included in the council packet.
