The Whitefish Community Development Board postponed a public hearing May 15 on a variance request by Haley and Bevan Evans for a 50-foot front-yard setback and 10% lot coverage to develop a new single-family home.
The action matters because variances affect how a property can be developed and can set precedents for neighborhood lot coverage and setbacks. The board decided to delay consideration until its next regular meeting, citing a reduced membership for the May 15 session.
At the start of the meeting a board member noted there were only four members present and asked whether the applicants and staff wished to proceed. A board member said, "We would like to postpone." A staff member added, "I don't see any objection from staff or board on that postponement," and the board moved the item to the June 19 meeting. The agenda item was identified in the meeting as WZB25-4 and described as a request by Haley and Bevan Evans for relief related to a 50-foot front-yard setback and 10% lot coverage for a new single-family house.
Board members approved the minutes from the April 17 meeting early in the session; that vote passed unanimously. The meeting concluded after the postponement with a motion to adjourn that carried.
Staff also reminded board members of a work session on the growth policy economic development chapter scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, at 6 p.m., which board members said they planned to attend. No new testimony or deliberations on the Evans variance took place during the May 15 meeting; all materials prepared for the hearing will carry over to the June 19 meeting for formal consideration.
