Albany County planning commission tables Mitchell zoning amendment after split vote and public concern over septic, roads and precedent

The Albany County Planning and Zoning Commission on May 14, 2025, voted to table consideration of the Mitchell Zoning District Amendment (CDA-01-25) until its June meeting after commissioners split on whether to recommend approval to the Board of County Commissioners.

The item would have allowed smaller residential lots in an area currently zoned for larger rural parcels; commissioners and members of the public debated whether approving the amendment would set a precedent, increase septic-system density and strain private road maintenance. After a tied recommendation vote, the commission voted to table the matter so a full quorum can make an affirmative recommendation.
