County approves Town of Farmington culvert-and-bridge aid request; fund balance will be reduced

Washington County supervisors approved Resolution 20.5, a Town of Farmington culvert-and-bridge aid reimbursement request, and authorized payment from the county fund, which county staff said will reduce an account that currently holds just over $50,000.
Scott, a county staff member, said the town originally submitted a request in June 2023 but the county did not have funds available until the 2024–25 budget cycle; the Town of Farmington then submitted a second resolution after project costs exceeded the original estimate. Scott said the total requested was about $23,008.23 and that the county fund "sits at just over $50,000," so the payment will materially reduce the available balance.
Scott described the county's approach to managing the culvert-and-bridge aid fund: roughly $100,000 per year (about $200,000 per two-year budget cycle) has been planned, and staff will gather town inventories to help set appropriate budget requests going forward. He said the county's GIS team has created an app towns can use for inventorying structures and that three townships have used it to collect data with GPS coordinates.
Supervisor Grama moved the resolution and Supervisor Mikulik seconded it; the board approved the motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Scott said staff will contact municipalities in advance of future requests to help set expectations on fund levels and anticipated disbursements.
