Board tables one retire–rehire resolution, approves another; trustees agree to draft policy

The Buckeye Valley Local Board of Education reviewed two retire-and-rehire resolutions and took different actions on each.

The board tabled the resolution to rehire retired employee Matt Signor indefinitely after questions from trustees about process, precedent and whether the district has a formal retiree‑rehire policy. According to discussion in the meeting, Signor’s retirement had been accepted effective May 29 and the proposed reemployment date was June 2; board members noted required public-notice steps and a public meeting had occurred but asked for a written policy to guide future decisions.

In a separate vote during executive session, the board approved the resolution to rehire and reemploy Angela Clace (vote recorded in roll call as all present voting yes). Board members said both rehires are for one-year terms under state retiree‑rehire rules and that employees will be rehired at a reduced rate compared with pre-retirement salary; rehired employees retain benefits but must comply with pension-system rules.

Board members asked staff to draft a clear retiree‑rehire policy to be considered by the policy committee and the full board so that future retire‑rehire cases follow a standard approach. Several trustees said the district has used retiree‑rehire arrangements in the past but that no formal policy existed; the board directed staff to prepare a policy for review.
