State examiners issue clean audit for Madison County Schools; no findings on federal programs

April Persher, audit manager for the State Examiners of Public Accounts, told the Madison County Board of Education on May 15 that the office issued an unmodified opinion on the district’s financial statements for the year ended Sept. 30, 2024, and reported no findings on its federal programs.

“This means that the financial statements are presented fairly in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles,” Persher said, noting the audit covered the district’s federal financial assistance programs under Title I and ESSER and was performed under generally accepted auditing standards and the Uniform Guidance (Title 2, U.S. Code of Federal Regulations).

Persher told the board the audit report — covering the period Oct. 1, 2023, through Sept. 30, 2024 — is available on the office’s website and thanked district staff for their cooperation during the audit process. “We issued an unmodified opinion on the board’s financial statements as of and for the fiscal year ended 09/30/2024,” she said.

Board members thanked the finance staff after the presentation. Board member Mister Bailey praised the district’s long-running record of clean audits and the leadership that maintained those standards.

The presentation was informational; no board action was recorded on the audit itself during the meeting. The audit manager said the report included the best opinion the examiners could issue and that no findings were reported for major federal programs audited this year.

The audit covered Title I and the Education Stabilization Fund (ESSER) as the major federal programs reviewed.
