Monroe County Health Department staff on Thursday reported declining COVID-like emergency department visits and lower wastewater concentrations as of May 7, and said flu activity remains minimal.

“Emergency department visits for COVID-like illness have decreased as well as wastewater concentrations,” Miss Kelly told the Board of Commissioners. She added that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting increases in the common cold nationally, which she described as normal for this time of year.

The health department also reminded residents that the public-health clinic has vaccines available and provided a contact number for appointments: (812) 353-3244.

Commissioners thanked department staff for the update; no policy action or new funding was proposed during the report. The update was informational and drew no public comment.
