On Thursday the Monroe County Board of Commissioners approved a letter to the Monroe County Election Board that raises questions about the Election Board’s authority over election administration and a contract that had been presented to the commissioners.
Miss Purdy, a county staff member who prepared the letter with Mr. Cockrell, told the board the letter compiles concerns raised by commissioners about the Election Board’s authority and the contract language. She said the letter is intended to bring those concerns to the Election Board’s attention for their consideration.
“It's in relation to the election board's authority over the election administration and the contract that was presented to you. Some questions that had been raised by you yourselves. And so we thought it'd be appropriate to put those concerns into a letter to be provided to the election board,” Purdy said.
Commissioners voted unanimously, 3-0, to approve forwarding the letter. No details of the contract language or specific legal citations were discussed on the record during the meeting, and no public comment was received on the agenda item.
The item was presented as an added agenda item; county staff indicated the matter reflected commissioner questions and asked the Election Board to consider them. The board did not direct any further immediate action beyond approving the letter.
