Board members agreed with staff that the site needs to be secured immediately but were reluctant to remove fire escapes, which could impede egress in a fire. One member said the board should “board and secure all the fences, but not remove the fire escapes at this time.” The motion to board windows and doors, secure fences and return with updates passed with a second and voice vote.
Members directed staff to identify and reach the trust’s management or real‑estate contact before the next hearing; several board members urged the city to obtain a concrete plan from the trustee or its realtor. The board also asked staff to place the item on future agendas so the board could review progress.
