Council awards preconstruction services for new Energy Department headquarters at $1.165 million

Cookeville City Council on April 17 authorized award of preconstruction services for the new Cookeville Electric and Gas Department headquarters in the amount of $1,165,753.
Mr. Haney, presenting design materials and site plans, described the project as an addition to the existing facility that includes a new engineering headquarters, a gas warehouse and truck base. He said design partners had completed site renderings and that staff recommended awarding preconstruction services to proceed toward construction. Haney asked the council to approve the preconstruction services contract in the amount of $1,165,753 and said he was available to answer questions.
Vice Mayor Eldridge moved approval; Councilman Walker seconded. The council voted 5–0.
The authorization covers preconstruction services only; a future vote will be required to award and appropriate funds for construction. Haney said the selected contractor will perform preconstruction planning and cost-estimating activities to refine the project budget before construction bidding.
