Board adopts Amplify mCLASS DIBELS universal reading screener for K–6

The Santa Maria-Bonita School District board voted 4-0 to adopt Amplify mCLASS DIBELS as its universal screener for reading difficulties for grades K through 6.
A staff member told the board that the state Legislature has passed a requirement that all school districts implement a universal reading screener at minimum for grades K–2 beginning next school year; the district's curriculum council reviewed options and selected Amplify mCLASS DIBELS because it is available in English and Spanish and provides intervention and progress-monitoring tools. The district is opting to use the screener through sixth grade to address existing reading-score deficits.
Staff said the screener will be administered three times a year to identify students' skills and gaps and to guide interventions. The motion to adopt the tool passed unanimously.
