The Provo City Council on Monday voted to place an 11.136‑acre parcel located at the southeast corner of Bulldog Lane and Lakeview Parkway — immediately south of the Provo High School campus — on the city’s surplus property list and authorized the mayor to dispose of it.
Tara Riddle, the city’s property administrator, said the parcel is a remnant from the Lakeview Parkway expansion and that department reviews recommended the property be declared surplus. “The intent of this is to eventually transfer this property to a developer for a housing project, which would include both workforce housing and market-rate housing,” Riddle said. She told the council details of the transfer agreement will be brought back to the council for review.
Council questions focused on whether the city should retain control of the land for direct development. Riddle said placing the parcel on the surplus list signals the council’s intent to move toward a disposition and will help a developer understand the city’s direction; she confirmed the transfer is expected to occur through the local land trust.
Council action: The resolution to place the parcel on the surplus list passed 6–0 with Councilor Christiansen absent.
Why it matters: The parcel sits adjacent to Provo High School and city staff said the disposition is intended to expand housing supply, including workforce units. Final terms and any conditions of sale or development will be returned to the council for approval.
