The Economic Development, Housing & General Affairs committee recorded support for the nominations of Amy Minter to the Vermont Housing Conservation Board and Gary McQuiston to the Occupational Safety and Health Review Board and agreed to continue confirming remaining nominees and monitoring next week’s legislative workload.
Committee members discussed both nominees and the logistics for completing confirmation paperwork. A committee member said Minter, who the group noted “is excited about being on the VHCB board,” would be a “splendid” addition because of her agricultural experience. The committee noted that McQuiston has served on the review board since his first appointment in March 2022 and that he currently chairs the three-member Occupational Safety and Health Review Board.
Members agreed to submit letters supporting both confirmations and recorded a roll-call of affirmative responses from several senators. The committee also assigned members to contact other nominees on the appointment list and set a goal to finish outstanding confirmations by the end of next week. The group scheduled a daily 9 a.m. check-in during the busy week ahead to monitor developments on S.125 and other bills that may return to the floor.
The meeting included administrative discussion about which committee members would follow up with individual nominees. Committee members volunteered to contact specific nominees — including William Johnson, Rhonda Shipper, Jeffrey Beecher and others named during the session — and to deliver confirmation letters to the Secretary’s Office. The committee planned to handle remaining nominations, including Kathy and Lindsay Curley, at a subsequent meeting.
No formal motion text naming a mover or seconder for the confirmations appears in the transcript; however, multiple senators verbally registered “yes” during the recorded confirmation letters. The committee distinguished between the administrative act of recording support and further steps to complete confirmations, such as submitting paperwork to the Secretary’s Office and reaching out to nominees for verification.
The committee also discussed next week’s heavy legislative schedule and encouraged members to monitor committee caucuses and floor activity, including S.125. Members planned to reconvene or check in daily at 9 a.m. to track which bills would return and whether additional committee action or testimony would be needed.
