At a regular meeting, the Eastern York School District Board recognized multiple Students of the Month across grade levels and received a presentation on the district's Girls on the Run program.
The recognitions highlighted two high‑school seniors: Brady, a four‑year varsity basketball starter in the marketing pathway who has helped in Freshman Seminar and plans to attend Lebanon Valley College to study actuarial science; and Seth Conover, an AP student involved in band and choir who plans to attend Kutztown University to study film, media and TV production. Elementary students honored included second‑grader Kayson Schultz (Mrs. Melissa Combs' class) and fourth‑grader Mara Kramer. The board also presented a plaque to student representative Neil Molloy for her service to the Board of School Directors.
Principal Lee Jordan of Craig's Creek Elementary described the Girls on the Run program as a nationally recognized, research‑based curriculum for third through eighth graders that combines physical activity with life‑skills lessons to build confidence, emotional resilience and decision‑making. Coaches Jackie Gordon and Malia Vertolli said the Craig's Creek team met twice weekly for about 10 weeks; the season included a community end‑of‑season 5K at York College. Gordon told the board the team grew to 19 participants this year and included parent volunteers and former student teachers as assistant coaches. Student remarks prepared for the meeting noted skills learned such as breathing techniques and “happy pace” running strategies used during testing and races.
The presentation emphasized that Girls on the Run at Craig's Creek was offered at no cost to participants to remove financial barriers. The board invited families and staff to join student photo acknowledgements following the recognitions. No formal board action was taken on the program during the meeting.
The board's recognitions and the Girls on the Run presentation occurred during the regular agenda's student‑recognition segment and under the educational presentation portion of the meeting.
