Several parents, players and league representatives urged Peachtree City Council during public comment to support enclosing and air‑conditioning the Kedron skating rink to allow year‑round practices and safer playing conditions. Bev O'Tone, who said she represents Peachtree City’s roller hockey league, described the rink’s role in youth and adult athletics and said the facility’s exposure to weather limits play and retention of talented athletes.
O'Tone described the program’s scale and needs: “We field a competitive adult team… Our youngest player currently is 4 and the oldest is 67,” and she asked the council to consider a climate‑controlled enclosure to reduce cancellations and retain players. Jeremy Richardson, a parent, recently elected board member of the Peachtree City Hockey Association, said weather exposure has caused unsafe conditions and frequent cancellations: “This is 2 uses. Not even a full week of trying to clean up that rink,” he said, showing a mop used to clear pollen and debris.
Player Lauren Reath, speaking in hockey gear, said heat inside the open rink can lead to dehydration and heat‑related illness and also harms referees and scorekeepers who work in confined, hot spaces. She asked the council to “support the idea of enclosing air conditioning in the Kedron skating rink.”
Speakers connected a potential enclosure to both safety and economic benefits: an enclosed, climate‑controlled facility could allow consistent training, reduce weather‑related cancellations and open opportunities to host tournaments that bring visitors and local revenue. Speakers asked for a public‑private partnership or city support but did not present a formal funding request at the meeting.
Council did not take action on an enclosure tonight; the comments were filed during the public comment period and will inform future planning or budgeting discussions.
