The Rutherford County School Board on Thursday adopted a resolution affirming the district’s intent to participate in section 4 of the Education Freedom Act, a step staff said is required for the district and eligible teachers to receive a $2,000 teacher bonus authorized by the law.
Board members discussed the resolution briefly and approved it by voice vote. Staff said they will publish an FAQ on the district website and distribute it to certified staff with details about the payment timeline and eligibility requirements.
Staff summarized basic eligibility guidance during the meeting: teachers must have been employed in the district for 120 days and meet direct-instruction requirements described in the legislation; payments will be for the 2024–25 school year and are expected to be paid after July 1, 2025, subject to county payroll timing.
“...we are working on an FAQ to attach to our website and then send to our certified staff as well,” a district official said during the meeting.
