Stratham board approves modest lunch, breakfast and milk price increases

Andrisky said the national average lunch price is about $3.85 and the district’s elementary lunch price was below that; the recommendation was to raise milk 15¢ to 75¢, breakfast to $2.25 (from $2.00), and lunch to $3.65 (from $3.40).
Eric Herring moved to adopt the price increases; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. No board member recorded formal opposition during the meeting.
Why it matters: Andrisky said the recommended increases reflect higher food and transportation costs and the inability to source some items due to purchasing rules; raising prices is intended to reduce the need to subsidize meals from the operating budget. Administrators said the district will track participation and return with additional information about financial impacts.
Implementation: The increases will apply districtwide where applicable for the next school year; the food-service team will return to the board with participation estimates and any additional questions about a la carte or second-entrée pricing.
