The Mount Vernon City Police Department released a monthly recap describing five incidents this past month that led to arrests, including a vehicle prowl on the 800 block of Garfield Street on the 17th and a DUI hit-and-run on Riverside Drive, the department spokesperson said.
The department said officers responded about 3:45 a.m. on the 17th to a vehicle prowl report on the 800 block of Garfield Street. Officers located a suspect about a block away; the person fled when contacted but was caught and taken into custody. The suspect was booked for disorderly conduct, obstructing a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance, the recap said.
In a separate incident on the 24th shortly after 9:30 a.m., an officer on Riverside Drive witnessed a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle that matched reports of an erratically driven car. Officers located the driver and determined he appeared intoxicated. Police found an open alcohol can in the center console and another on the driver’s floorboard. The department said neither the driver nor any pedestrian was injured. The driver was booked for DUI, hit and run, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
The department’s recap said a park ranger at Edgewater Park on the 28th located a male and female who were subject to a no-contact order between them. When officers arrested and searched the male, they found a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, packaging materials and a scale. The male was booked for violation of a no-contact order and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, the department said.
The recap also described two theft-related arrests. On the 7th just after 6 p.m., a man who went into a store seeking to buy alcohol was denied and then left with a bottle; when officers located him he dropped what turned out to be drugs into a garbage can. The stolen alcohol was recovered and returned to the store. The suspect was booked for theft, obstructing and possession of a controlled substance.
On the 12th just after 7 p.m., a patrol officer located a male and female who both had outstanding warrants, including a robbery warrant for the male. Both were taken into custody without further incident, the department said.
In closing the video recap, the department spokesperson thanked viewers and said, “Thanks for watching. We’ll see you next month,” according to the recorded message.
The department did not specify the month referenced in the recap or provide defendants’ names, case numbers or whether charges have been filed with the county prosecutor’s office.
