Mount Vernon approves three-year labor contract with Teamsters Local 231

The Mount Vernon City Council on May 14 authorized the mayor to sign the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with Teamsters Local 231 covering Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027.
Human Resources Director Erin Cater said negotiators reached a tentative agreement in April and the union ratified it April 24. Key terms include a 4% cost-of-living adjustment for 2025 (retroactive to the start of the year), 3% increases in 2026 and 2027, pay-range adjustments for parks maintenance workers to align with comparables, and a $10-per-month increase in longevity pay tiers.
Cater told council the total 2025 cost is about $211,628 and that the amount was budgeted. Council voted to authorize the mayor to execute the agreement in open session.
