Appling County commissioners approved several procurement and capital items: a fireworks contract for the July event, fence repairs after storm damage, in-house lighting work at Maxine Park and replacement picnic shelters at Lake Marys.
County staff recommended awarding a fireworks contract to Falcon Fireworks at a quoted price of $15,003.85 and advised scheduling the display on the Saturday before July 4 to avoid higher weekend pricing. The board approved moving forward on the recommended contractor and date.
The board awarded storm-related fence repairs to TNT Fencing Company for $40,005.04 after sealed bids were opened. Staff said there are eight to ten locations, including Lake Marys and parks, and that some insurance money had been received. Commissioners discussed adding additional fencing work as needed under subsequent board approvals.
For Maxine Park, staff proposed performing lighting and fencing work in-house to install LED lights for a resurfaced tennis/pickleball area; the in-house cost estimate presented was $10,476.68. Commissioners approved the in-house lighting and fencing plan.
For Lake Marys, the board approved purchasing three metal picnic shelters from Bennett Buildings at $16,008.99. Staff explained one bid of about $15,002 did not include a necessary customized wrap to secure a 2-to-4-foot drop-off behind the shelter; Bennett's price included that wrap. Another bidder's price was $18,500.
Each procurement item was moved and seconded during the meeting and accepted by the board. Staff said contract documents will be revised as needed to reflect correct sponsor/line items and that additional add-ons will come before the board for approval.
