The Marblehead School Committee on May 15 approved a mid‑cycle formative evaluation of Superintendent John Rabidoux and instructed the committee chair to begin contract negotiations to consider offering a permanent contract.
The evaluation assessed three goal areas — professional practice (communications and staffing), student learning (student voice and leadership), and district improvement (development of a district improvement plan). Committee members reported progress in all three areas, with student learning showing significant progress and the other areas showing clear movement toward completion. The committee noted that Rabidoux has faced “many challenges” in his first 10 months and praised his work and the contribution of the central office team.
After discussing the written feedback, the committee voted unanimously to accept the mid‑cycle evaluation. The committee then voted to authorize the negotiation team to begin contract discussions with Rabidoux about transitioning from interim to permanent superintendent.
The evaluation document requests further data on staffing linked to student outcomes, a districtwide needs analysis to inform the FY27 budget, stakeholder feedback plans for the district improvement plan, and periodic progress reports to the committee. Rabidoux thanked the committee for thoughtful feedback and committed to developing a more detailed district improvement plan over the summer and bringing it back for committee review.
