The Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical School Committee authorized senior students to purchase the school-issued Chromebooks they are currently using for $1 each.
Superintendent’s remarks to the committee explained the district’s older Chromebook models no longer support Google Classroom updates and will not receive security or platform updates; for network safety the district will not support those devices on its network going forward. The school asked for committee permission to allow seniors to keep their devices for personal use at the nominal cost of $1.
A motion to permit the sale was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. The committee recorded affirmative votes and the motion passed. The meeting record does not identify how many devices will be sold, whether students must sign an agreement about network access, or how the district will handle device-related data and security after sale.
