The Jersey Village City Council on May 14 approved an amendment to the capital replacement fund budget to purchase three replacement mowers now rather than in later fiscal years.
Robert Bassford (staff) explained the city will replace two units previously scheduled for fiscal 2027 and one scheduled for fiscal 2029 with smaller 60-inch gasoline models. Staff said the smaller machines increase operational flexibility, reduce fuel and maintenance costs relative to existing 72-inch diesel models and will lower the annual contribution to the replacement fund.
The mowers will be purchased from available fund 7 balances; staff said trade-in or auction of the existing machines will replenish the replacement fund. Bassford estimated the new mowers will have a five-year useful life and noted trade-in values from the vendor (John Deere) are available though auction with reserve is an option. Council moved and seconded the ordinance amendment and it passed on a voice vote.
