The Jersey Village City Council on May 14 approved Resolution No. 2025-30 granting a variance that permits B & C Entertainment, doing business as Comedy Sports, to operate a bar within 300 feet of Hope Church.
Courtney Rutherford (staff) said the original TABC application required a food-and-beverage certificate but the applicant informed staff the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission wanted the city to consider a variance because the venue did not have a kitchen and would not be serving food at this time. Rutherford reported that staff reached out to Hope Church and that the church had provided consent for the variance. A city speaker later relayed that Hope Church representatives had proactively requested the business adjacent to the church.
A councilor moved and seconded approval of the resolution; the motion passed on a voice vote. The variance approval allows the business to serve alcohol within the 300-foot setback from the church, subject to TABC rules and any city conditions associated with the permit.
